Edge Ascension Offers Certified PowerQuick — the first battery-powered ascender for use at heights
Edge Ascension LLC is marketing the certified PowerQuick ascender product line to qualified customers in the construction, maintenance, and inspection industries in US and international markets. Not to mention the protective services industry, such as military, police, fire, rescue, and etc. And there are the movie, theater, and entertainment industries as well. The PowerQuick powered personal ascenders can be employed as personal lift systems for rope access to heights, or as a hoist for lofting equipment and materials. The PowerQuick personal ascender can carry up to two personnel plus equipment to heights of up to 800 feet on a single battery charge at a safe-rate of 45 feet per minute. The PowerQuick ascenders are lightweight electro-mechanical devices used to climb a 12.5mm static safety rope, and they incorporate a built in hold-on-rope safeguard to prevent slippage failures.
PowerQuick Ascender as presented in a segment of the Science Channel’s Beyond program
The PowerQuick Ascender, which was originally developed for US Special Forces under a Defense Advanced Research Program (DARPA) contract made international news in 2006 as the first battery-powered climbing device in the industry, for which technology developer Quoin International, Inc of Carson City, NV was awarded a DARPA Company of the Year Award.
The PowerQuick ascender is the ultimate safety device, it is employed to safely ascend to heights and eliminate the fatigue of the climb. It is commonly known that fatigue is the root cause of most climbing accidents involving property damage, injury, and death when climbing to heights. Beyond this, the PowerQuick ascender acts as a force multiplier as it reduces downtime and increases the amount of work that can be accomplished in a single ascent.
The PowerQuick ascender is the ultimate safety device.
Edge Ascension offers ascender related specialty equipment, accessories and services.
The PowerQuick ascenders feature a multi-channel remote control capability that allows for the synchronization of several ascenders on a single remote control. For example: With six ascenders you can have six remote controllers (one for each ascender) or you can have one remote controlling all six, or you could have two remotes controlling three ascenders each, etc… mixing it up however you prefer. There are sets of identical antennas for each ascender and remote control. One set is 1.5 inches and the other is 3 inches. The 3 inch set is for outdoors applications, while the 1.5 inch set is for short wave length metal building applications. Each remote can synchronize up to six ascenders.
Beyond the remote controllers and specialty antennas, there are harnesses suitable for a multitude of possible ascender applications. There is rigging equipment for virtually any conceivable application. There are batteries and battery accessories, such as a multi-battery cable system, multi-battery suspension harness, two types of battery (standard verses explosive environment) and two styles of battery (dongle verses on-board). Not to mention the battery charger and battery connection cables.
The services we offer are: usage training and qualification; maintenance and recertification; tactical, rescue, and training structures; and consulting services. We provide comprehensive training for the safe and reliable use of the PowerQuick ascender. As with any rigging safety device, a basic understanding of rigging is required. Every 20,000 feet of use the PowerQuick ascender must be sent to one of our maintenance facilities for inspection. We design and build custom training towers for tactical, rescue, and access training. We have consulted for the Canadian and US military and private corporations, as well as rescue and police organizations in the areas of risk management, unique access, rope handling and rescue.
While the mere mention of a powered climbing device conjures images of Spiderman-like superhero tools, the PowerQuick Powered Ascender is serious business. The ascender is essentially a personal elevator. It allows personnel to work at heights or below ground such as in rescue or below platform operations with greater safety and less fatigue, which reduces chances of injury or death. To use the PowerQuick ascender simply attach the unit directly to the climbing rope, attach it to the climbing harness, then pull the trigger, and up you go. Unlike standard winches, the PowerQuick system literally climbs the length of the rope instead of collecting the rope around a capstan.
Edge Ascension LLC is a dealer of the PowerQuick Ascender in the US and Canada. The PowerQuick Ascender is manufactured by PowerQuick Technologies (P) Ltd., a PowerQuick, Inc.-Miura, Ltd. joint venture.

I enjoyed reading about your hike. I too hiked to the ’stump’ of The Old Man of the Mountain. It was tough to get to. I look forward to reading about your second expedition. Check out a web page I made about my two hikes to the Old Man of the Mountain.
